- GEORGE W. BUSH: THE 9/11 INTERVIEW BECOMES NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL’s 2ND HIGHEST RATED ONE-HOUR PROGRAM IN NETWORK’S HISTORY
- 2.6 Million Total Viewers Tune In to Premiere Broadcast Despite Hurricane Power Outages (WASHINGTON, D.C. — August 29, 2011) The one-hour premiere of National Geographic Channel’s (NGC) George W. Bush: The 9/11 Interview at 10 p.m. Sunday night attracted more than 2.6 million viewers 2+ based on fast national numbers released this afternoon, becoming the network’s second-highest rated one-hour broadcast behind only “On Board Air Force One.” Despite massive power outages across the East Coast, the one hour special averaged a 2.5 HH rating (the fourth highest rated telecast ever, for any length) and a 1.7 P25-54 rating (the fourth-highest demo rating in the network’s history). Also, 1.4 million P25-54 tuned in to some part of the special. The world premiere documentary reveals exclusive, first-person insight into the man at the epicenter of our government’s decisions in the face of the deadliest terrorist attack launched on American soil. Taped over the course of a two-day interview, President George W. Bush opens up with candid details and personal experiences on the grueling hours and pressure-packed days following the attacks. George W. Bush: The 9/11 Interview also opens a new window into his personal account, with never-before-released archival footage and exclusive materials directly from the George W. Bush Presidential Library. “As we approach the tenth anniversary of the devastating attacks of Sept. 11, National Geographic Channel was honored to have the exclusive interview with former President Bush to mark this historical occasion,” said Steve Schiffman, President of National Geographic Networks, U.S. “We feel this documentary is an important piece of oral history and are thrilled that our viewers responded.” George W. Bush: The 9/11 Interview encores Wednesday, August 31 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT and Saturday, September 3 at 10 p.m. ET/PT during NGC’s “Remembering 9/11” Week. The program is produced for NGC by Partisan Pictures.
